Road Trip Guide
Every stop on the desert highway — distances, what to expect, and how Hotel Highway Queen fits into your journey. Whether you're making this in one day or spreading across two, here's your roadmap.
Exit Jaipur early to avoid city traffic. Head southwest on NH-48 (Ajmer Road / Jaipur–Kishangarh Expressway). The expressway is 6-lane and smooth. Pack fuel — the next reliable fuel point is at Dudu or Kishangarh.
The first premium rest stop on your Jaipur to Jaisalmer journey. Perfect for an early breakfast (restaurant opens 5:30 AM), EV charging, fuel refueling, a fresh start if you drove overnight, or a full overnight stay. Free parking for all vehicles. Staff at the front desk always.
👑 YOU STOP HEREFamous for Kishangarh miniature paintings ("Bani Thani"), the marble and granite trade, and the scenic Gundolav Lake. The Kishangarh bypass connects you to Ajmer without entering the city. Quick fuel stop options available.
Ajmer Sharif Dargah — the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti — draws millions of pilgrims annually. Ana Sagar Lake and Taragarh Fort are worth an hour each. Pushkar (15 km further) has the sacred Pushkar Lake, 52 ghats, and the famous Brahma Temple. Plan 2–4 hours here before continuing.
Beawar is the junction where NH-48 splits toward Jodhpur (NH-25/62) and toward Udaipur (NH-58). Most Jaisalmer-bound travelers continue on NH-62 via Pali toward Jodhpur. Fuel up in Beawar — quality stations available.
Mehrangarh Fort dominates the Jodhpur skyline — one of India's most magnificent forts. The blue-painted old city below is a photographer's paradise. Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum is also here. We strongly recommend an overnight stop in Jodhpur — it deserves at least a half-day. Continue to Jaisalmer fresh the next morning.
Pokhran is famous in history (India's nuclear test site). Osian, 65 km before Jaisalmer, has ancient temples dating back centuries. The landscape has fully shifted to Thar Desert by now — sandy stretches, sparse villages, camel sightings. Fuel stations become sparse — fill up in Jodhpur.
The living Jaisalmer Fort, Sam Sand Dunes, camel safaris at sunset, rooftop dinners overlooking the golden city — Jaisalmer is unlike anywhere else in India. Plan 2–3 nights minimum. The journey from Hotel Highway Queen to Jaisalmer is better done in 2 days with an overnight in Jodhpur.
All Routes Welcome
NH-48 (the former NH-8, Golden Quadrilateral) connects Delhi to Mumbai via Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, and Ahmedabad. Travelers from all these cities pass through Dudu — or stop here on purpose.
